THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!

The ‘freshhh2009’, our international on-line competition finally finished.

For nearly 40 days, from March 5th until early April, over 1000 students from 32 countries were competing in two tough rounds to qualify for the Live Final.
Let us ‘re-freshhh’ the memories.

  • On-line Board Game Round

During the ‘freshhh2009’ on-line board game the participants were introduced to the exciting world of the oil and gas industry.
On the on-line board game surface the teams found the track which imitated the value chain of the oil and gas industry. It started with Exploration and Production, followed by Refining, Petrochemistry, Logistics, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Wholesale and finished with Retail. Each round covered one element of the value chain and required 1.5 – 3 days to capture the points. Within a round, related to the given value chain element, the teams were challenged with 3 different tasks: quiz questions, an on-the-job task and a logical game.

After the on-line board game the best 43 teams qualified themselves into the Creative Round.

  • Creative Round

The task was to develop a game focusing on oil and gas industry. The teams had two options to select from:

    • A game developed for general public (e.g.: gasoline customers at filling stations, business partners, employees’ families, etc.) with an objective of providing high level information, generating interest in the industry while having fun
    • A game developed for secondary school students with an objective of utilization in education as a supporting tool for teaching natural sciences while introducing oil and gas industry in an attractive, enjoyable way.

We were expecting a documentation of a complete, playable and enjoyable game with title, clear rules, examples of tasks/questions, draft layouts, etc. The teams were encouraged to be creative and use fresh ideas!

The teams got two weeks to complete the task and we received really creative and valuable pieces of work.

The appointed senior and experienced MOL Group managers, experts and target group representatives (secondary school students) had the enjoyable task to read, try out, evaluate and score the works and analyse the ideas.
Based on their evaluation we published the list of the best 10 teams who were invited to the grand finale at Budapest through the homepage of the competition.

  • The Live Final

The two reading halls of the Hotel Marriott offered a proper environment for the final of the international competition.

The 10 participating teams came from Hungary (5), Romania (1), Slovakia (1), Poland (1), United Kingdom (1) and Pakistan (1). 75% of them have engineering background Each team prepared a 10-minute presentation introducing their game idea focusing on oil and gas industry. Unfortunately, due to administrative reasons, the Pakistani DeXTeRouS team could be present virtually only, but their video performance was appreciated by both, the Jury and the audience. Considering the special situation and the extremely high quality and motivation a special award was made for them.

During the afternoon the teams were challenged with exciting tasks in order to show their way of thinking, problem solving ability, how they work in teams and how they work under pressure. The jury had the opportunity to see and observe these young talents during problem solving task and quiz questions while evaluate their decision made during the Oil- and Gas Business Simulation Game and challenge them with questions.

The tasks were exciting not only for the participants but also for the audience, who were also trying to solve the given problems and were thinking of the right answers.

The Jury was fascinated by the teams’ performance on the Live Final and according to the Jury members’ feedback the participants made the day really enjoyable.

All teams showed high-level performance, enthusiasm and good team spirit that caused difficult evaluation and decision-making for the Jury. This is shown in the fact that two third places were announced: for the “Financial Crisis” team and for the “MegaJoule per MOL” team. The second place was given to “HTID” while according to the Jury’s decision the “Schrödinger’s Lions” team showed the best performance on the Live Final. The audience evaluated the “MUFLON” team’s game presentation the best.
